Rocky Ridge and Royal Oak Residents,

RRROCA will be hosting an anti Oil Well Rally against the Kaiser oil well going ahead and the promotion of an Urban drilling policy being implemented by the Provincial Government. This situation with the Kaiser oil well is not just our community issue, if the Kaiser oil well goes ahead, it will be the beginning of wells being approved through out city communities in Alberta. Many of our residents are in the oil and gas industry and overall we support the Energy industry in our province, however not inside urban areas that are inappropriate.

The fact that the ERCB will not consider an Urban drilling policy is alarming. The current directive 056 states the only stakeholders of an oil well being drilled is within a 100 meter radius of the well. As it stands, the residents of Royal Oak, Rocky Ridge, the City of Calgary, the three prisons and the shopping centers are NOT considered a stakeholder and our objections are not material. We are continuing to dispute the ERCB ruling through the variance review process and will submit our final rebuttal June 07th,2012. The ERCB will then have up to 90 days to report a decision. As mention on the recent oil well update, we have a new Energy Minister Ken Hughes and he is also the MLA for our neighbours in Arbour Lake, Citadel, Hawkwood, Hamptons etc. Please continue getting anyone you know in Minister Hughes riding to send their concerns to minister.energy@gov.ab.ca and Mr. Jason Luan riding of Hawkwood atcalgary.hawkwood@assembly.ab.ca

Sandra Jansen our newly elected Calgary West MLA, will be attending the rally and has committed to introducing a private members bill for an Urban drilling policy. Unfortunately, this is a timely process and we need to continue our awareness with the media, Albertans and government that this issue with the Kaiser well in our community is not acceptable and must be stopped.

An update of the oil well events will be sent out by June 07th. Please check the www.rrroca.org website for updates.

It is critical that we have a large turnout for this rally, the bigger the crowd, the bigger the impact! We are asking for volunteers to help with door to door, sign making, phoning, graphic arts and rally execution. If you are able to help, please email oilwellrally@rrroca.org and lets us know specific tasks you can assist with.

The Oil Well Rally will be June 23rd, Saturday 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. located at the London Drugs parking lot (near the Wal-Mart)
