CALGARY FIRE DEPARTMENT

2014 FIRE PREVENTION WEEK

The Calgary Fire Department celebrates Fire Prevention Week every year, helping to fulfill two very important aspects of our mission – to serve the community through excellence in fire prevention and education.
This year Fire Prevention Week is October 5 – 11, 2014. The theme, as set by the NFPA is ‘Smoke alarms save lives. Test yours every month’, will be promoted with a video and through all events and Fire Prevention Week communications.

The week’s Fire Prevention activities which are coordinated by Community Safety include:

– Fire Prevention Week kick-off event with the Alberta Office of the Fire Commissioner, on Friday, Oct. 3 at ATCO Village
– Fire Prevention Week Open House, Saturday, Oct. 4 from at Bowness Fire Station 15
– Announcement of 2014 Junior Fire Chief, Monday, Oct. 6
– The Calgary Fire Department Recognition Luncheon, Tuesday, Oct. 7 at TELUS Spark
– Fire Prevention Week Smoke Alarm Blitz, Wednesday, Oct. 8
– Calgary Fire Department visit to select Safeway stores to promote Fire Prevention Week, Friday, Oct. 10

Please encourage your friends and family to attend the Open House. We would also encourage you to share the key fire prevention and fire safety messages for this year:

– Smoke alarms, when properly installed, tested and maintained, provide the best early warning system in the event of a house fire.
– Test smoke alarms once a month by pressing the alarm’s test button and replace the batteries of each smoke alarm once a year.
– Replace smoke alarms every 10 years, or if you discover a smoke alarm is defective or broken after testing, replace it.

We thank Community Safety for the hard work and CFD members for their participation in Fire Prevention Week.
